Nationale parken Canarische Eilanden

Nationale parken El Hierro

0Frontera Rural is the largest park on the island and very popular. There are a huge variety of ecosystems existing here.

Bosque de Laurisilva (Wild Laurel Forest): A vestige of the forests predominant in earlier times can be found in the highlands among these magnificent laurel trees, ferns and mosses.

El Fayal is the zone for oak and beech trees as well as eucalyptus, which represent a classic example of flora introduced by man.

Some interesting places include; El Julan, where you’ll see some fascinating rock formations. This was declared a protected area.

Nationale parken Fuerteventura

0Corralejo's Parque Natural de las Dunas (Dunes Natural Park), an area of supreme natural beauty that is a protected nature reserve.

This natural park is an area of supreme natural beauty that is protected from environmental damage and further development by law.

It lies right on the front line of the Corralejo beach, one of the most fascinating beaches on the island of Fuerteventura, and it is surrounded by impressive white sand dunes.

Both Island of Lobos and the sandy plain or jable of Corralejo are of great significance to avifauna, having been designed by SEO/Birdlife as IBA routes (Es 336 Lobos Island and Es 337 Corralejo Jable).

The sandy plain or jable is, due to its extension, the predominant environment although inland plains of different sustrata (earthy and/or rocky), as well as lava fields, can also be found. All of them with a slight slope and vegetation communities where shrubs (Aulaga Launaea arborescens, Saltwort Salsola vermiculata, Suaeda subspecies and Box Thorn Lycium intricatum predominate. This landscape is the resulLimonium sp. Photo: V. Quilist of the extreme aridity of the environment and of the impact of extensive cattle grazing (mainly goats).

Nationale parken Gran Canaria

0Gran Canaria has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve, all the natural and geographic richness on the island is living proof that vegetation is a true paradise which must be preserved for residents and visitors alike and its unique environmental conditions closely protected.

One of the island's main attractions is an immense, deep crater (Caldera de Tejeda) which dominates the centre of the island, providing a drainage network of rainwater which in turn runs down the ravines towards the coastal areas.

The other point of interest is crater Caldera de Bandama with the old goat farmer living alone inside the crater.

Nationale parken La Gomera

0In the middle of La Gomera you will invariably pass through the Garajonay National Park (800-1000m over sea-level).

Designated a world culture heritage site by UNESCO in 1986, the park is thankfully protected.

Ideal for hiking, horse riding etc. There are many areas still waiting to be discovered.

The Garajonay Park offers the visitor the possibility of enjoying various forest environments, often enveloped in a humid fog which sustains the rich plant life and nourishes small streams which spring from the very edge of the arid land. Here it is still possible to find Nature in pristine conditions, evolving even as it recovers its very essence.

Nationale parken La Palma

0The beautiful national park of the Caldera de Taburiente is well worth a visit.

It was declared a national park on 6 October 1954 and covers an area of 3750 ha. The National Park area was later increased in 1981 to 4690ha when the El Paso town council included woodlands in their area.

The Caldera de Taburiente is a spectacular centre for Canary Island Pines (Pinus Canariensis).

If you do visit the national park it is recommended that you go with a guide as the terrain is unpredictable. A good guide can be found through the tourist information. The guides will choose the best walk depending on the group and experience.

Nationale parken Lanzarote

0Timanfaya National Park was created between 1730 and 1736 when more than 100 volcanoes, covering more than 50 km², rose up and devastated this part of the island. The last eruptions were in 1824.

When you enter the park you will be shown several demonstration of how hot the ground is. Then you can take a tour bus around the park, with a guide, they will tell you about the National Park and its history.

Timanfaya is a true natural wonder, guaranteeing every visitor a fantastic time.

Nationale parken Tenerife

0In 1954 the Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide was declared a national park. Standing 3718metres (12198 ft) high the volcano Teide forms the highest peak on Spanish territory. Teide is also the world's third largest volcano, which last erupted in 1909.

The Parque Nacional de las Cañadas del Teide includes an enormous volcanic crater which has a 48km circumference, out of the center of this enormous crater you will find Mount Teide, at a unbelievable 3718 meters high, making this the highest mountain in the whole of Spain.

The park lies at about 2000 meters above sea level. Due to the height, in winter you will find that snow falls, gail winds blow and sometimes the roads are closed. During the summer this arid landscape, which gives the impression of having walked into a cowboy movie, can reach temperatures above 40ºC.

You can access the now extinct volcano either by foot or cable car. The cable car will take you to almost the very summit. On a clear day from the summit you will feel as though you are in heaven, with breath taking views of Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro. This is one of the most visited tourist attraction and must not be missed.
